HOW MANY TIMES HAVE YOU READ THAT IN THE NEWSPAPERS?

Too many, if you ask me. Doesn’t the City ever win a case? Hell, doesn’t the City of Wilmington ever even FIGHT an accusation of wrong-doing? Do you realize that each time you read or hear about another settlement granted to a complainant, that means that THE CITY IS GIVING AWAY YOUR MONEY? Are the City lawyers really that bad? Hell, even in my worst gambling days of losing race, after race, after race, at least I won ONCE in while.

I am in the process of seeking the records of just how much of YOUR money has been given away by the James “I love to settle quickly” Baker administration. I have a feeling (with some backup info from a couple of reilable City insiders) that Wilmington settles about 90% of the time that complaints are entered against the administration; City workers, Elected City officials, City policies, etc. etc.

They settle complaints against police regularly.

They settle complaints against personnel decisions also.

They settle against garbage collectors, meter maids.

Hell, it’s like a cascade of give-a-ways. Settle here, settle there, here a settle, there a settle, everywhere a settle-settle.

There are only two conclusions one can draw. EITHER THIS CITY IS ALWAYS WRONG, OR, THIS CITY CAVES IN TO EVERY COMPLAINANT, and maybe more of us should give it a try. Which ever you conclude, you’ve got to stop buying THEIR version of the story. Baker’s got to go at this next election.

Settlement is an easy solution, if you are Baker.

Think about it. If you settle, there is always a “shut-your-mouth” condition attached, which means that we never get to know how guilty the administration is. We never find out how or why they screwed up. No one has to explain things…and silence and secrecy always benefits the incumbent.

Also, a settlement can actually get you votes. After all, aren’t you going to vote for and get your friends to vote for a Mayor who gave you a barrel of cash for stubbing your toe on a blade of City grass? If you are a City employee who screwed up, aren’t you going to be loyal to a Mayor who got you off the hook by paying off a complainant who can now never talk about what you did?

Don’t buy that excuse “It was cheaper to settle than to fight it”.  That is pure bullshit. The City pays attorneys to fight things. It’s their job. It’s what they are supposed to do, if there are no grounds for the complaint.

I admit, Wilmington has a unique legal department situation. After all City Solicitor is John Sheridan is only four feet tall, and I realize that if he goes into court no one can see him as he argues his case, while hidden below the podium (let him bring his own crate to stand on). That is no excuse.

No, I am going with the fact that an incumbent Mayor, and in this case it is James Baker is protecting himself from the exposure of having the reveal how badly his aministration is, if 90% of the wrong-doing remains in files hidden in the City Solicitor’s closet…not subject to public views.

Sometimes the “settlement” takes another form.

I am in possession of a letter right here at my side as I write this. This is a beauty. The Mayor-approved letter says that the Kuumba School doesn’t have to reapay a $200,000 loan. Exact words are:”…..the Wilmington Urban Development Action Grant Corporation voted (how domocratic of them) to forgive the $200,000 loan to Kuumba Academy”.

The Kuumba school is doing much good, and apparently they are doing very well…if this is the kind of favored treatment they receive. LET’S ALL APPLY TO THE CITY TO BE “FOREGIVEN” THE WAGE TAX THEY SAY WE OWE.

Here is a bit of history for you…the letter was written by a Baker appointee named Brian Murphy…”Brain the imbiber” he was called….(a keg a day I’m told). Now, he had only one job…to get Baker elected and re-eected..and he did the job well….he got himself nice office in City hall…given a title; Excutive Director of the Wilmington UDAG Corporation…..with the heavy responsibility of writing letters of forgiveness for those favored ones who owed the City money. AND…GET THIS….HE MADE $80,000 AND USED HIS CITY OFFICE TO RUN HIS PRIVATE CONSULTANT FIRM….

He was asked to leave….when the crap hit the fan…but there were no other reprecussions. In reality he and he Mayor should hae been prosecuted for theft of services.

Going back to the KUUMBA shcool $200,000 debt cancellation.  How many Kuumba parents, and workers and friends of the parents and workers will demonstrate their gratitiude for the Mayor’s largess by voting him a third term?

YES MY FRIENDS. SETTLEMENTS USING YOUR MONEY DO HELP INCUMBENTS WHO ORCHESTRATE THE SETTLEMENT….AND NO ONE TALKS ABOUT.

The $200,000 loan forgiveness was not to leave the office file cabinet….but it did get out in this case….thank you former insider employee.

MIKE BROWN AND THE NEW WILMINGTON CITY ETHICS COMMITTEE

I am about to test the City’s Ethics committee, much the way I tested the House of Representatives Ethics Committee with the Atkins case. You will recall that City Councilman Mike Brown skipped his talk with God one day, and instead he went to 2 female police officers, I’m told, and made a suggestion to them they might consider entering a sexual trinity excade with him.

As tempting as the offer was, it was rejected. That evening I called him at home, and he said there was nothing to it…..well, it took some time,but federal courts decided that there was somethng to it….about $50,000 dollars worth to it…The verbal agreement was accepted, will be signed shortly, I’m told.

So it’s over, right? OH NO IT AIN’T those involved may not be able to talk about it….BUT I CAN. AND I AM GOING TO TALK ABOUT IT TO THE CITY’S ETHICS COMMITTEE ABOUT IT. Just like the House of Reprsentative Ethics which I approached with my discoveries.
I hope to make them “an offer they can’t refuse”. 

Greg Chambers and another person on the committee swore to me on my radio show (on a station that shall remain nameless…until my lawsuit hits the papers), that their ethics responsibility extends to elected City officials…

SO I AM DAMN WELL GOING TO FILE AN OFFICIAL COMPLAINT ABOUT MIKE BROWN…FOR CONDUCT UNBECOMING,  and I DO MEAN UN-BE-COM-ING. I fully expect action. Greg Chambers is a straight guy, and I believe they will investigate.

That means that the victims of Mike’s suggested debauchery can’t go public, but certainly can be forced to meet in private with the committee….LET’S SEE IF THE ETHICS COMMITTEE WORKS, IF THE CITY COUNCIL ETHICS (yes, I realize it’s contradicion in terms) WORKS…remember “conduct unbecoming” can be serious….after all Atkins was thrown out for conduct; no actual crime involved. In fact, this Brown case involved a paid with city money person, at least verbally abusing two other paid with city money persons. And the settlement money will be city paid….

IT’S MORE MONEY THAN ATKINS COST US..AND GIVEN THAT IT INVOLVED FAT UGLY BROWN…I’VE GOT TO SURMISE THAT HE COULD HAVE OFFERED THEM MONEY….(CERTAINLY I CAN’T IMAGINE EVEN CONSIDERING THAT ANY ONE ONE WOULD TOUCH BROWN FOR FREE)…IF AN OFFER OF MONEY WAS INVOLVED THAT COULD MAKE IT “SOLICITATION”….A CRIME.

By the way Mike, make ME an offer for sex…of course I’ll reject it…but I sure could use the $50,000 settlement the Mayor will give me.

Let’s Help Republicans Get Ready For The Presidential Primary

You know me. I like to help the downtrodden; the people in need, those searching for help, people who need a lift.
NOW PAY ATTENTION REPUBLICANS. I am going to teach you how to get back to your core beliefs in time for the presidential primary. REPUBLICANS MUST:
Believe that Jesus loves you and shares your hatred of homosexuals and Hillary Clinton.

Believe Saddam was a good guy when Reagan armed him/ a bad guy when Bush Senior made war on him/ a good guy when Chaney did business with him/ and a bad guy when President Bush needed a “we can’t find Bin Laden” diversion.

Believe that trade with Cuba is wrong because it is a communist country, but trade with China and Vietnam is vital to a spirit of international harmony.

Believe that the US should get out of the U.N, while our hightest national prioritiy is to enforce U.N. resolutions in Iraq.

Believe a woman can’t be trusted with a decision about her own body, but multinational drug corporations can make decisions affecting all mandkint without regulation.

Believe that the best way to improve military morale is the praise the troops in speeches, while slashing veterans’ beniftis and combat pay.

Believe that if you keep condoms out of schools, adolescents won’t have sex.

Believe that a good way to fight terrorism is to battle our longtime allies, then demand their cooperation and money.

Believe that providing health care to all Iraqis is sound policy, but providing health care for all Americans is socialism. And believe that HMO’s and insurance companies have the best interests of the public at heart.

Believe that global warming and tobacco’s link to cancer are junt science, but creationism should be taught in schools.

Believe that a president lying about an extramarital affair is an impeachable offense, but a president lying to enlist our support for a war in which thousands die, is solid defense policy.

Believe that the Government should limit itself to the powers named in the Constitution, which include banning gay marriages and censoring the internet.

Believe that the public has a right to know about Hillary’s cattle trade, but George Bush’s driving record is none of our business.

Believe that being a drug addict is a moral failing and a crime, unless you’re a conservative talk show host. Then it’s an
illness, and he needs our prayers for his recovery.

Believe in supporting “Executive Privilege” for every Republican ever born, who will be born, or sho might be born (in perptuity)

Believe that what Bill Clinton did in the ’60’s is a vital national interest, but what Bush did in the ’80’s is irrelevant.

Believe that you must support hunters who shoot their friends and blame them for wearing orange vests similar to those worn by the quail.

Believe that if you don’t send this to 10 other people, we’re likely to be stuck with more Republicans in 2008…now THAT’S a scary thought.

Ok, undersand it all now, Republicans? Once you renew those core beliefs, you will be in great mental shape to make the appropriate decision in the voting booth. Good luck with that.

IT’S EASY TO TELL THE GUILTY FROM THE INNOCENT ON THE BASEBALL STEROID SCANDAL

IT’ ALL ABOUT BODY SIZE. That’s the evidence. All they have to do when a pitching icon like Clemons denies the use of steroids, is to call in the appropriate expert doctors and let them loose. With today’s technology and medical progress, I am certain that doctors can provide medical proof that those self created double size bodies could NOT have materialized any other way than with the intense assistance of steroid enhancements.

Several years ago, while watching a game with Clemons pitching, Brian says to me; “He on roids, Dad. He threw in the mid to high eighties when he was 25; now at forty, he’s throwing in the mid nineties. Give me a break, he’s articially pumped.” It is really that simple. Bodies cannot double in wieght and size naturally…as doctors will verify. Let those who want to fight the accusation of using steroids submit to close examination by doctors who know all about that stuff…guilt or innocence will be varified.

My son Brian, who is about to start his second season of winter ball in the country’s best independent professional league; The Independent Golden League in California, says that the steroid problem has hit the college leagues, minor leagues, even high school leagues. The thinking is “If I have a shot to make the big leagues, I have to match the body size and strengh of the of those who are in the “bigs”. It’s a real temptation for these kids to join the trend.

Luckily Brian has a sure cure to handle the temptation; it’s called “his father’s fist”–just kidding; well, kind of kidding. The high level Independent professional leagues are interesting. For example his league achieved 56 major league contracts for it’s players last year. But you would not believe the tension and competition involved. There is no team spirit and all that stuff.
Each player views his teammates as the “enemy”. They are all in competition with one another to show their stuff and make the next step; a major league contract. They do NOT want to see their teammates do well…they want to see themselves do well.

For instance, if you are a relief pitcher and/or closer, like Brian is, you sit in the bullpen and hope like hell that the starters suck…that way, you get called in to show what you have to offer. It’s all about ME at that level. It is what it is. Brian will take his chances WITHOUT steroids, trust me.

THIS ONE IS HOT—HOT AS IN HELL

A couple of years ago a police contact of mine told me about an interesting conversation between City Councilman Mike Brown and one or two female Wilmington police officers. Mike who often professes to speak with God before making his decisions, might have skipped his briefing with God, (and had a talk with John Atkins) before HE SUGGESTED A “THREESOME” WITH THE TWO OFFICERS.

I think big Mike might have misconstrued the meaning of Trinity, if you get my drift.

I called Councilman Brown at home that very evening, and asked about the suggested tripod. He said, “No,that’s just some misunderstanding and it’s nothing like that. You’ll see, there’s nothing to it”. Well, it took some time, but there definitely IS something to it…and it looks like about $50,000 of your money is about to be paid for IT in the form of a settlement to the victims of Brown’s testosterone-driven suggestion. The last time Brown said that God talked to him, he said he was told to vote for eminent domain.  I wonder if he speaks to the same God we do.

At least one of the officers took some serious time off from work because of the emotional truama. The people involved have every right to get whatever is proper as compensation. I would hope that more women report and take action when disgusting behavior like that it hurled at them. Just as important, let’s see if the people who vote for people like Brown are going to take it as seriously as the women did. It’s time you started to look at the “quality of character” (to quote one of Brown’s mentors) of elected officials, more than listening to their BS campaign talk. Can I get an amen for Brown’s recall?

This kind of harassment has been going on as far back as 350BC when crazy Aristotle said, “The man is superior to the female. The one rules, the other is to be ruled. The real glory of man is shown by commanding, and the glory of women is in obeying”. I guess Mike Brown is a big fan of Aristotle. St. Paul didn’t help any when wrote “Man was not created for the woman, but woman was created for the man”. I think Paulie missed something during his conversion process. And, of course, let’s not leave out the other nut-job Nietzsche; “Men shall be trained for the war, and women shall be trained for the recreation of the men”.

What’s that you say, that’s old time thinking? Well, have you stood around the water cooler at work lately? It goes on every day. It’s the modern version of Aristotle, Paul, and Nietzsche. In a study conducted during the Anita Hill vs Supreme Court Justice Thomas hearings, more than 50% of men admitted that they perform acts and speak words that could definitely be considered sexual harassment. Sitll don’t believe me? Try this:

I will be deluged again with syllogistic respones from those who want the gun laws downgraded to allow every one who wants one to get one…provided the person is not a convicted felon.
I will welcome the attacks on my point of view that we need less guns on the street; not more guns.

THE LATEST PROOF? POLICE OFFICERS SHOT AND KILLED DURING THE LAST 11 MONTHS HAS REACHED AN ALL TIME HIGH OF 177…WE HAVN’T HAD NUMBERS THAT HIGH SINCE 1978.
THAT’S ABOUT A 38% INCREASE.
Now once again….explain to me why it is that you want more guns available? I must have missed something in your logic the last time we discussed this topic. By the way, many of you gun advocates know police officers….why not ask their opinion?
After all, is any one better qualified with documented experience to have the most logical opinon on this topic. The police function is the only thing which stands between us and anarchy. Oh, I forgot, you probably don’t know that. Bring it on!

TIME TO GET OFF YOUR BUTT AND START PUSHING

REPUBLICAN STATE SENATOR CHARLES COPELAND CALLED A CAUCUS MEETING AND ALREADY STARTED PUSHING GOOD GOVERNMENT BILLS—STARTING AS SOON AS the LEGISLATURE CONVENES IN JANUARY.
That’s right….he has already gotten all the Republican State Senators to agree to introduce the bill which makes it impossible to keep bills hidden in their desks as a way to refuse to even consider legislation. ACCORDING TO THIS BILL, ALL BILLS MUST BE C0NSIDERED FOR A VOTE, ONE WAY OR THE OTHER, FOR OPEN DISCUSSION. AND AN UP OR DOWN VOTE MUST BE TAKEN. It will take 11 people to get that bill passed…
8 Republicans are committed, DEMOCRATS KAREN PETERSON AND DAVE SOKOLA (who were original supporters of the bill) ARE A LOCK TO SUPPORT IT….SO ONE MORE DEMOCRAT HAS TO STAND UP AND SUPPORT IT….. who is going to be the other DEM to make it law? Here’s what we do know….Thurman Adams will use every bit of his bullying power to kill the bill. Can he keep the other democrats in his pocket. One of these will have to buck Adams, and tell him to go pound sand: McDowell/ Henry/
Marshall/ Blevins/ DeLuca/ McBride/ Ennis/ Adams/ Bunting/
Venables/ Cook. Who is you choice t do the right thing?
In my opinion it will have to be McBride, or, Bunting. They are the only two how have the gonads to buck Adams.

HOW DOES THIS IDEA GRAB YOU?

Consider this NEW JERSEY high school pilot program for dealing with drug use among their students…..
First of all, they substantiated what we here in Delaware did; namely, they establish the fact that, from a percentage point of view, THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE IN THE PERCENTAGE OF KIDS USING DRUGS IN INNER CITIES AND SUBURBAN LOCATIONS….and here is how they deal with it. Mandatory randum drug testing of all students in any kind of school activity…from football players to the chess club members.

If an activity student fails the drug test, the parents are called in, family is notified, family counseling provided and the student has to take outpatient drug counseling (and, of course, is withdrawn from the school activity. After treatment the student takes the drug test again…if clean, they can resume their school related activity…from football to chess. They have 3,200 students and 2,000 of them are in activities and have to undergo the randum drug testing projects. Schools do have a right to set the requirements for joining school activities; so being drug free is a legitimate requirement for the school to set.
