OK, OPEN GOVERNMENT FIRST….BUT LET’S NOT FORGET THE WHOLE PICTURE

It seems like it has been 10 years ago that I was bustin’ balls walking around Legislative Hall with a clipboard with Karen Peterson’s petition to get 11 signatures, which forces the FOIA bill out of committee. I was literally collaring state senators to get them to sign on…..got 8; but 11 was the magic number. Well, not two years later and it’s an actual bill, allegedly actually going to be considered. If it gets out of committee, it’s pretty much guaranteed to pass. All that is need is for 3 Democratic Senators to agree….there already are two; Karen Peterson is the prime sponsor, and Dave Sokola is co-sponsor….so, all you need is one more democrat senator….if you know any, bug the hell out of them and beg, plead, threaten…do what you have to do. BUT LETS’ MOVE ON. All 8 Republican Senators have signed on…or, did some lie?

Remember, there were several other bills, which were pretty much agreed…..shall I refresh your collective memories?
INSPECTOR GENERAL—that person who wakes up every morning; calls in his staff and says, “Ok, gang…new day. Let’s start looking for waste, fraud and corruption right now”. Man, doesn’t that sound good…an actual person with adequate staff to actually WATCH things on a daily basis, and the power to investigate and present iron-clad cases which no Attorney General can turn down. Might I remind you of the interviews done with IG’ around the country who achieved prosecuation about 98% of the time they turned it over to their AGs.

Here again…if you know a senator or representative well enough, ask them to create the bill, and/or get colleague support, and introduce it and take it all the way…DO IT…AND DO IT NOW!
ALSO, LET’S SEE WHERE OUR GOVERNOR CANDIDATES ARE ON THIS ISSUE, AND PLEASE VOTE ACCORDINGLY:

JOHN CARNEY SAID TO ME…
“We don’t need an Inspector General; it would duplication of the positions of State Auditor and Attorney General.”
We all know that that is a crappy excuse…just like, in my opintion, Carney is a crappy excuse for a candidate for governor.

JACK MARKELL SAID TO ME: “There is no need, I will be your Inspector General:—yeah, right, Jack, good luck with that .
None of us is buying that BS. It’s just a cutsy way to confuse the issue, and it makes a nice campaign sound bite.

ALAN LEVIN (a hopeful possible candidate) SAID TO ME:
“I won’t wait for legislation. The day after I am sworn in, I will issue an executive order, creating the position, then have a very credible objective varied group of people immediately seek an ideal candidate for the Inspector General position, which I will evaluate and make the decision. He has said that to me, but he has also said the same thing during all his unofficial campaign presentations, which he has given around the State. He’s my guy for governor, I make that very clear.
WHAT DO YOU SAY…WILLING TO WORK FOR THE CREATION OF THAT POSITION……DO SOMETHING…ANYTHING, TO MAKE IT HAPPEN.

Here are few other things we have pretty much agreed upon for enactment for this legislative session. I will get into specific details on each at a later date. For now, just remember them:

NO MORE LEGISLATORS ALLOWED TO SEEK STATE JOBS FOR THEIR FRIENDS, RELATIVES, WIFE AND/OR BOYFRIENDS OR GIRLFRIENDS (OR ALL THREE).

LEGISLATORS NO LONGER ALLOWED TO SIT ON BOARDS OF AGENCIES, OR ANY GROUPS, THAT GETS STATE MONEY

REFERENDUM—GIVING THE PEOPLE (WITH A REQUIRED NUMBER OF PUBLIC SIGNATURES) THE RIGHT TO INTRODUCE BILLS, AND GIVE ALL THE PEOPLE A CHANCE TO VOTE ON NEW ISSUES WHICH LEGISLATORS DREAM UP….how many of use would have voted for the State purchasing 3 golf courses? They did that!

PAY RAISES MUST BE PUT UP FOR OPEN PUBLIC SCRUTINY
AND DISCUSSED AND VOTED ON IN THE LEGISLATIVE CHAMBERS.

LOBBYIST NOT ALLOWED TO GIVE ANYTHING TO LEGISLATORS: MONEY, GIFTS, CAMPAIGN CONTRIBUTIONS OR EVEN CONSENTUAL SEX) NADA/ ZERO/ ZILCH/ NOTHING

ALL BILLS MUST GET OUT OF COMMITTEE FOR OPEN DISCUSSION AND VOTE WITHIN 10 DAYS OR SO.

Those are the main points, weren’t they? LET’S DO IT.
We’ll discuss each in detail as we go along.
